Prerequisites

Prerequisites:

This course is designed for individuals interested in pursuing a career in automotive maintenance and light repair. This includes aspiring automotive technicians, vocational and technical learners seeking supplemental training, automotive enthusiasts interested in expanding their knowledge, displaced workers seeking a new career path, military veterans transitioning to civilian employment, and individuals preparing for ASE Auto G1 Maintenance and Light Repair certification.

There are no prerequisites to take this course. However, you will need a high school diploma or GED equivalent to start a career as an automotive technician. It is also recommended that you have basic computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and fundamental keyboarding skills. A strong grasp of English grammar conventions, such as spelling, punctuation, and composition, is also recommended. Also, a high school-level understanding of basic math and science concepts may be beneficial.

Certification Requirements:

This course is aligned with the ASE G1 Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Certification Test and helps prepare you for the knowledge areas covered on the exam.

To earn ASE G1 certification, ASE requires one year of hands-on work experience in automotive maintenance and light repair. Appropriate vocational training may count toward a portion of this requirement. Course completion alone does not result in ASE certification.
